The first month of the movement starts in prayer. At its core, prayer is simply communication with God. When Jesus teaches us to pray in Matthew 6:9-13, He models communication with the Father. The specific kind of prayer we’re focused on throughout the 40|50 Project is intercession which is advocating and standing in the gap for our country.
Pray for the 40|50 Project and the hearts of our fellow American family Pray for our leaders and pastors in every state Pray for each other and all the participants Intercession is a type of self-less prayer by which we advocate for another. When we intercede, we plead the case of someone else before the Father and ask Him to do something about their situation. This type of prayer moves the Lord. Isaiah 62:6-7 Msg says “I’ve posted watchmen on your walls, Jerusalem. Day and night they keep at it, praying, calling out, reminding GOD to remember. They are to give Him no peace until He does what He said, until He makes Jerusalem famous as the City of Praise.” The Lord says pray to Him on behalf of a nation, day and night, and give Him no peace until He makes that nation a success. This is the prayer posture that we will take for our nation during the 40|50 Project. We want to ask the Lord to do whatever He has to do within us, the family of God, to heal our nation where racism is concerned. He invites us to remind Him of His promises. Such wonderful encouragement should build our faith. (Notes from Dr. Naima’s Devotions on Prayer): When entering into your prayer space that you’ve designated, put on the whole armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18). Take authority in your space and bind all spiritual and physical retaliation and backlash against you and your family. Ask God to hide you under the shadow of His wings (Psalm 91) and keep you hidden as you pray for the most impact and the least push back. The word for worship in the Scripture means to bow down, prostrate. The picture is one who bows in the presence of the king, exposing one’s neck in complete vulnerability to say, “My life is in your hands to behead, if needed.” You may be led to bow before the King in complete humility and obeisance. As we bow, allow the physical posture to produce the words of worship. Hallelujah means Hallel Jah or Praise Yah (as in Yahweh). In Hebrew, Hallel means a joyous praise in song, to boast in God. You may want to make joyful praise to music. You can also find and read scriptures like Psalm 18 and Psalm 100 and Exodus 15. God inhabits the praises of His people, thus He comes in the midst of our adoration of Him and makes Himself known. Praise and Thank the Lord for all that He has already done for you, your family, your community, city, state, and our nation, and thank Him for what He promises to do. Allow the Holy Spirit to lead you in listing and thanking God for every little thing you can think of. Gratitude opens our hearts to hear Him clearly. In order that our petitions can be heard, we must clear the air with God. There’s no way to truly have a heart to heart with Him with sin in the way. Thus, repent for self and known and unknown offenses. Repent for others. Stand in the gap. Love covers a multitude of sins. Ask the Lord to forgive. Get things right with God and folks. Intercession comes from a legal term where an advocate stands before the judge on behalf of their party and petitions for the best for that party. Jesus did it and still does it for us at the right hand of the Father. Stand in the gap for the supernatural removal of every road block. Ask the Holy Spirit to lead you in what and how to pray. Ask God to speak through His Scriptures. Listen. Write down what He says. The Word of God is alive and active and divides asunder soul from spirit. Ask God to speak prophetically by His Spirit. Listen. Write down what He says. Remove all fear and doubt and agree with what He says. Speak His Word back to Him and rest in His promises. PRAYER
